My name is Matthew and I'm the artist behind the
Etsy Shop Artificer's Lounge.
I'm on my third year of making these deck boxes and I want to thank everyone who has commissioned me to make them. Its been a gradual process of improvement and I've had a lot of fun along the way.
On this site there are 4 galleries showing some of my past work. I recommend starting there. Each gallery page is better than the last. There is a page on how to commission your own deck box and another for thematic premade deck boxes that are less expensive than a brand new commission. Story Time
In 2020 during the pandemic I stopped going to Commander nights at my local game shop. My dozen or so commander decks started to languish in my backpack from non-use. With tons of quarantine time on my hands, I figured, "Why not make some nice transparent front display boxes and keep them all on a shelf?".
I pulled out Gimp and got to work cutting the commanders out from their backgrounds. I made 15 boxes kinda trashy boxes with poorly engraved art on the top. They had a lid that just sat on top with no form of locking mechanism or hinges. I decided I needed up the design functionality and actually do some art alteration to make them turn out better on a laser engraver. I took two art classes in college and fortunately I learned about an ink pen style meant to focus on the contrast between light and dark areas. I put that to use and that's when the quality really took off. I had a few friends ask me to make some for them and soon enough, I had a store on Etsy.
This remained mostly a hobby doing about 1 box a week until late 2022. That's when I launched some new deck box designs and this website. Now I am working 5-8 hours every day building custom deck boxes. I never could have foreseen this 5 years ago.
